1. Shaft location and traffic flow
Decide where the lift will sit relative to your staircase, living areas and bedrooms. A central location usually provides the best convenience and keeps travel distances short on each floor.
2. Minimum shaft size and clear openings
Share the recommended shaft dimensions for the lift models you are considering. Make sure your architect provides:
- Clear internal shaft size (width × depth)
- Clear opening width for doors on each floor
- Any additional recess or niche if you want flush doors with the wall
3. Structural support and pit/headroom
Modular steel shafts reduce dependency on heavy RCC structures, but basic load-bearing support is still required at defined points. Also discuss:
- Pit depth required below the ground floor
- Headroom required above the top landing
- Possibility of minor adjustments if site conditions change
4. Openings and door planning
Confirm which side the doors will open on each level. In some villas, you may want the door on one floor to face a different direction to connect to a hallway. Planning this in advance helps avoid conflicts with furniture layouts and door swings.
