This does not preclude a home lift near the coast. It means the specification should reflect the environment, and the additional cost is modest when incorporated at order stage rather than addressed after corrosion appears.

Shaft position is established during the site assessment and constrains the remaining specification decisions. In older central-Chennai properties the stairwell void and internal light well are the usual candidates; in newer villas with setback space, an external modular shaft is frequently the least disruptive route.

It is worth noting the distinction from commercial passenger lifts, which are engineered to different expectations of ride quality, noise level and cabin finish. The two are frequently confused when quotations are compared side by side.

The factors below are what actually move a proposal. Where two quotations differ, the difference is usually scope rather than product, which is why they should be compared line by line.

Can a home lift be retrofitted into an existing Chennai villa?

In many cases, yes, and retrofits form a significant proportion of our residential work. The usual routes are the stairwell void, an internal light well, or a modular steel and glass shaft built against an external wall. The external shaft avoids the structural work an RCC shaft requires, which matters when the household remains in residence during installation.

Do coastal homes near ECR need a different specification?

A home lift is built for a private residence, with considerably greater emphasis on quiet operation, ride comfort and cabin finish, and is configured to the individual property. The two are frequently confused when quotations are compared, because they are not equivalent equipment and are not specified the same way.

How much space is required for a home lift?

Blackstone does not publish a universal minimum footprint, because the elevator is configured to the property, the available space and the customer requirement. Compact two-person configurations need substantially less space than a larger cabin, and where a wheelchair is involved more space should be planned. Pit depth and headroom above the top landing matter as much as the floor footprint, and are more frequently overlooked. The requirement for your property is confirmed at the site assessment.

How long does installation take?

The programme depends on the configuration, the number of floors served, site readiness and the extent of shaft or civil work required. Manufacturing and civil work, rather than the installation itself, generally determine how long a project takes. We confirm the schedule for your property once the site has been assessed.

Do you provide maintenance after installation?

Yes. Annual maintenance contracts include scheduled preventive servicing and breakdown support, delivered by our own technicians based in Chennai with spares held at our Mugalivakkam facility.
